Event Description
Vancouver, B.C. ~ The Nu:BC Collective moves downtown March 8th for a dynamic program of music paired with live video, electronics, and speech. Highlighting the program is Frederic Rzewski’s seminal work Coming Together, an emotionally charged musical setting of text written by a prison inmate killed in a prison riot. Also on the programme is the world premiere of Doubling, a Nu:BC commissioned work by Chris Paul Harman, as well as Jesper Nordin’s Calm Like a Bomb for violin and electronics, and Stillpoint, by Vancouver composer Jeffrey Ryan. Also on the programme, François Houle showcases his sensational improvisational skills in a collaboration with Vancouver composer and electronic music guru Keith Hamel and video artist Aleksandra Dulic.
‘Coming Together’ features a selection of Canada's most outstanding performers including flutist Paolo Bortolussi, clarinetist François Houle, violinist Rebecca Whitling, violist Marie-Claude Brunet, cellist Eric Wilson, bassist Mark Beatty, harpist Heidi Krutzen, pianist Corey Hamm, as well as special guests Ted Cole, voice, jamie Griffiths and Aleksandra, video, and Keith Hamel and Kenneth Newby, software/animation.
This concert is the final event of Rzewski Fest running March 5th – 8th see the UBC School of Music website www.music.ubc.ca for full details.
