Event Description

. Friday, March 28th I.M.U. presents PAINT, DAWNTREADER, CINDERPOP & The HERMIT @ The Media Club, 695 Cambie. Doors 8pm, $10 Advance - Purchase advance tickets online @ http://www.imuproductions.com

PAINT - The band's energized live sound showcases a unique blend of folk, funk, rock, classical, and R&B influences that merge into a distinct, coherent, and recognizable style. Lyrically, PAINT tackles today's socially-relevant themes such as prison abolition, women's and gay rights, race relations, and religious persecution. Their most recent CD release, Urban Folk Tales has garnered the band praise, "truly unique first effort...held together by frontman Fretless' strong vocals...that would make James Brown proud...there truly is something here to satisfy every musical taste" (Scene and Heard) and was produced by Peacemaker Records co-founder and veteran international reggae artist Shuggy Milligan (Love 'n' Life, Things 'n' Times, featuring Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare), and was mixed by Caleb Stull (Hinterland, The Front, Parlour Steps, Windows '78). http://www.thepaintsite.com

DAWNTREADER is the band you hear faintly through neighbourhood garages, writing music that is perhaps beyond their age in sophistication. Their expressive, emotionally-charged songwriting traverses much terrain, from propulsive beats and grinding guitars to dark, cinematic open skies with dreamy atmospheric passages and hypnotic melodies. Recorded over the course of a year, their debut CD "Thoughts of an Exile" is an album of unbridled sincerity and ambition that's already garnering considerable buzz. http://www.dawntreader.ca

CINDERPOP play inventive, harmony-drenched, guitar-driven songs that range from orch-pop and space rock to bouncy Beatlesque powerpop. Featuring alumni of The Salteens, Moev & SK Robot, their eclectic sound combines free-floating vocals with dreamy melodies and pulsing guitars to great effect. Having performed with artists such as Stereolab and Sloan, Cinderpop are taking things further and farther out with their new album "A Lesson In Science", which will be debuted live this special evening. "Cinderpop mines the orch-pop territory and makes it sound new, fresh. Kinda like The Left Banke meets The Zombies with XTC... It's all wickedly cool!" -- Soul Shine Magazine http://www.cinderpop.com

The HERMIT is an award-winning 5-piece organic indie/pop/electronica band founded by drummer/songwriter/producer Hamish Thomson. Their indie debut "Flying Out Of Solitude" garnered multiple WCMA nominations which led to a record deal with Nettwerk Records, and the follow up, 2005's critically-acclaimed "Wonderment", featured guest vocals by Martina Sorbara, Allison Shevernoha, Shelley Campbell, C.R. Avery & Frazey Ford (Be Good Tanyas). The Hermit recently completed their third album "Turn Up (The Stereo)" with co-producer Krish Sharma (Rolling Stones, Perry Farrell). With a recent #1 video on Bravo's Top 30 Countdown and opening spots for Ivy and Apostles of Hustle, The Hermit is finally getting their due. http://www.hermitmusic.com
