Event Description
Although Norah Jones isn’t
showing up at JazzFest anytime
soon, she is sending us three
delightful emissaries (and collaborator/
friends) in the persons of
singer-songwriters Sasha Dobson,
Jesse Harris and Richard Julian.
Grammy-winning Harris wrote five
songs for Jones’ 2002 Come Away
With Me album (including “Don’t
Know Why”), and has lately been
working with Dobson, who comes
from a straight-up jazz
background but has made a real
splash after developing an
audience-friendly Brazilian groove
and folk-pop sound. Julian, the
third member of this group,
combines intellect, humour and
deft storytelling in his songs,
which he presents in a honeyand-
sand voice. Check out
Dobson’s fantastic Modern
Romance CD, then find out why
these guys have been working
and touring with everyone from
Bonnie Raitt to Madeleine
Peyroux. With Tim Luntzel bass,
and Dan Rieser drums.
“Sasha Dobson has an eminently
listenable voice: sensuous . . . and
devoid of showy pretense.” –New
York Times
“Jesse Harris writes pensive and
catchy pop songs the way some
people dash off grocery lists.” –
People Magazine
“Richard Julian is one of the best
songwriters I’ve heard in a long
time.” –Randy Newman
