Event Description

"...a captivating evening of soulful Eastern charm."

Though a noted musical disciple of the legendary Ravi Shankar, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt has cut his own path and gained the worlds attention along the way. Bhatt successfully bridged two different continents of music by inventing an instrument that combines the intoxicating sound of Hawaiian slide guitar with staple Indian instruments the sitar, sarod and veena. Bhatt calls his revolutionary instrument the Mohan Veena, and the heights to which he as mastered it are dizzying. His affecting on-stage expression, endless supply of melodies and blinding speed have cemented his reputation as one of the worlds best slide guitar players which is why he won a Grammy award with Ry Cooder for their 1994 world music collaboration, A Meeting By the River. Bhatt has also collaborated with folk/blues powerhouse Harry Manx, who often cites the Eastern maverick as a major influence. Vishwa Mohan will perform along side his sons Salil and Ramkumar Mishra in what promises to be a captivating evening of soulful Eastern charm.
