Event Description

Programme: Two-piano arrangements of music by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Leonard Bernstein, Percy Grainger, Francis Poulenc and William Bolcom.

A rare two piano recital featuring Terence Dawson, and the VCM’s own head of piano Jamie Syer. A chance to see two Steinway D Grand pianos squaring off on the AGPH stage with arrangements of music by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Leonard Bernstein, Percy Grainger, Francis Poulenc and William Bolcom. Jamie has taught at Mt. Allison University, the University of Calgary, Mount Royal College, and the University of Regina. He has won an Alberta Achievement Award, and the CBC Talent Competition. Dr. Syer is the driving force behind the VCM’s Collegium program. Terence Dawson is one of Vancouver’s most respected musicians. He has performed as concerto soloist with the Vancouver Symphony and National Arts Centre Orchestras, recorded to critical acclaim for EMI Virgin Classics, Bravura Discs and Skylark and has made numerous CBC Radio broadcast performances.

Chamber Music is the focus of the VCM's latest 'salon style' series, showcasing the talents of the Conservatory's fine faculty and distinguished guest artists. These affordable afternoon concerts all take place at the Alix Goolden Performance Hall from October 14th 2006, through to June 3, 2007. Please note that all concerts begin at 2 pm. Admission by donation. Proceeds towards music programs at the Conservatory. Artistic Directors Stephen Brown and Dr Jamie Syer.
