Event Description
A 3-hour 100% live electronic jam session.
ARTISTS
Pema aka A Great White Bird aka Pema and his Computers usually plays ambient and bassline synthesizers, and dabbles with electronic percussion.
Nathan aka Hrdvsion plays a big rack of oldschool analog techno drum gear and his analog synthesizer, and hops on Pema's laptop for incredible drum solos.
Mike aka Inner Culture aka Mr. Crocodile plays solid digital computer percussion on his laptop. Mike's IDM sensibility is guaranteed to remind you of Squarepusher and Funkstorung.
Ryan and Jake fill out the sound on keyboards and guitars, and jump on Pema's laptop when it's free.
WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE
For anybody who hasn't heard of Warp Records, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Funkstorung, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Polypore, etc... this stuff will sound vaguely like Moby if he got really, really fucked up on meth, and then did some Opium to calm himself down. But that's kind of an insult to the aforementioned artists, too.
ABOUT THE SHOW
How to Build an Airplane is a chilled-out live electronic show that's quiet enough that you can carry on a conversation, free for all ages (pay cover on your way out if you feel like it), you can drink and eat at the venue which is covered with couches and chairs... it's a visually stimulating show 'cause Pema brings his oscilloscope which displays his sound waves on a screen, a TV which displays his laptop screen to the audience, and Ryan brings a slide projector and cool slides.
New to this next show: we're gonna bring all our favourite magazines for the audience to read, plus markers so you can write comments in them.
