Started playing in bands in Powell River in the mid-60's. Mostly played drums, sometimes keyboards. Frequently partnered with Ron Irving (who later went on to form the hugely successful country band Bootleg in the 80's). Some bands I was in at this time were Steve Mason Trio, Clint Jahrig Band (Clint was the grandfather of boy-band The Moffats), and The Bondsmen.
In late 60's, early 70's I hooked up with Mike Kennedy, and we moved to Texada Island then to Cobble Hill. I started off playing bass, moved to keyboards, finally to drums. See "Shameless Rockers".
Back in Powell River, Mike and I did some recording. (I'll post some audio one of these days). Through the 70's and 80's, worked in various bands such as Peak, Lila, River City Band, and Sam Hurrie Group. The late 70's were the glory days of Powell River's famous Westview Hotel, where I got to jam with such great musicians as Al Foreman, Jack Lavin, Dave Woodward, Sherman Doucette and many more.
In the mid 80's I joined The Bubbleheads with Steve Briggs (now of The Bebop Cowboys) and Armando Castagnoli. When this great R&B group disbanded, I continued with my own group, Ron & The Ravers. We played lots at The Westview, the Texada Pub, and did one great gig in Port Hardy.
Back playing with Sam Hurrie in the early 90's, we both got heavily into acoustic blues, and in '96 I started touring as a solo Delta Blues act, playing Dobro guitar. For about 6 years I toured all over BC and a bit of Alberta, and released 3 CDs.
Finally got tired of the road, and have been back in Powell River since 2004. These days (early 2006), most of my energy goes into songwriting, though I do occasional gigs with my partner Roy Carson - we call ourselves Old Age & Treachery. Music is still a very big part of my life.
We're here to help artists and arts organizations reach their audiences and each other.
Non-profit run and created by the community, ArtsVictoria.ca integrates current event listings and multimedia arts portfolios, and creates an explorable, living archive of the arts in Victoria BC.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
