About

Rocky Sandoval

When you think of one of the more promising artists the pacific northwest has to offer, you have to think of singer/songwriter, Rocky Sandoval. Hailing from his hometown, Tacoma, WA, this R&B crooner has his sights set on breaking the ‘mold’ in the music industry and finally shedding spot light on Asian-American talent. His drive and work ethic are comparable to none and his passion for creating quality music is a standard that he takes pride in. On stage, he is as comfortable as ever and it’s evident that he has the confidence and charisma needed to be a force in the music industry.
He began writing at an early age and always looked at himself as a writer-first musician, crafting songs for local artists, which eventually got him noticed. A move to Los Angeles in 2004 to study at the Musicians Institute, is where Rocky really began coming into his own. While taking classes to finish up his BA in commercial music, he began recording full-time as well as performing all over the the southern California area. He was a featured artist on MTV’s singer/songwriter show, ‘the SCORE’ with Ryan Cabrera; he was top 15 finalist on P. Diddy’s ‘Making the Band’ season 4; and was a top 50 finisher on American Idol season 1. But it wasn’t until a move back to his home state, that things really started taking off.
2010 marked a breakout year for Rocky Sandoval. It all began with a ‘chance by’ meeting with club promoters, who represented multi-platinum R&B star, Ginuwine. After hearing Rocky’s material, a meeting was set up and Rocky found himself opening up for the legend himself. Two days later, that same demo, got into the hands of Beth Valiant, radio director for I-91fm, “I wasn’t sure he had an audience, until we took a chance on him”. His song, ‘Alligator Skin’, ran for nearly 6 months on the top 50 charts, and reached as high as #17, as an unsigned act. The radio play opened more doors as he was invited to perform at Seattle Fashion Week at the Quest Field in Seattle. He also found himself opening up for every major artist that can through town.
2011 has been even bigger. He just completed his first official mixtape, “Straight Out the Notebook”, which has moved 3,500 units on the streets and 30K downloads. He has signed an ‘exclusive’ deal with Ocean Records CEO Steve ‘Ocean’ Brown, and is currently on tour for the ‘Ladies Night Out’ concert series, opening for major stars, Ginuwine, Kci and Jojo, Jon B, Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, Avant, Donell Jones, Bel Div Devoe, and many more to be announced; In an ‘LNO” tour stop in Fresno, California, he was invited on stage by Kci and Jojo personally, with the rest of the tour mates, to sing classic Jodeci songs in front of a packed arena of 10K. The tour continued with Boyz II Men and Brian McKnight in his home state of Washington, where Rocky received a standing obviation for his performance, which was unusual for an opening act. He was a featured performer for the 2011-2012 Miss Washington USA pageant, and was featured in three magazines this year, gracing the cover on two of them, One-Ten and Emeralds. He is featured on numerous internet sites, most notably You-Tube; he partnered with local rappers OnFire Ent. and together their page ‘OnfireEntTv’ is going on its two-millionth view and counting, in just under a year and a half. He is set to launch his own company Common Mind Music Group, and www.RockySandovalWorld.com by early 2012, where you can exclusively find his latest projects ‘Sex, Drugs, Rap, and Soul’ and his solo debut album ‘Throwback”, all set for late 2012. Rocky continues to win hearts with his music, performance, character and is the definition of hard work; the fresh face that music fans have been looking for.
