The Oak Bay Art Club was established in 1944 and is still going strong today with approximately 50 members. The focus of the club is to expose our members to classic and new painting techniques through a series of 8-10 demonstrations by professional artists, critique sessions by well known artists, critique show and tell sessions among the members, and lastly, 4 afternoon Paint-Ins (often mentored by professional artists) per club year. We meet at the Windsor Pavilion in Oak Bay at 2451 Windsor (see map at https://www.oakbay.ca/parks-recreation/facilities-rentals/recreation-centres/windsor-pavilion) on approximately every other Monday evening at 7:30 - 9:30 PM, September - April. The Paint-Ins are held on Wednesday afternoons from 12:30 - 4:00 PM. 4 times a year.
Our members range from beginners to more advanced painters however it is an extremely friendly and welcoming club as we are all learning together! Interested individuals are encouraged to attend one of the evening meetings to experience one of our meetings. Membership fees are $85 for the full year and there is a sliding scale for those who join partway through the club year.
We generally try to have one art show per club year but there may be additional opportunities that come up spontaneously. For example, paintings by OBAC artists have been on show in a news office for the past year which included three rotations, each 4 months in duration.
