About

Noctuary

Label: Lost Disciple Records
since circa 1996
Noctuary began its journey into musical debauchery in the summer of 1996. Following months of preparation, the band recorded the acclaimed demo Where All Agony Prevails, garnering immediate label interest and critical recognition. Displaying Noctuary's signature emphasis on extremity, melody and atmosphere, the demo signaled the emergence of an impressive new force within the nascent international underground.

Noctuary signed to Blood Fire Death Records, an imprint of Dark Symphonies, in early 1997. After touring to establish a support base and hone its musical craft, Noctuary entered the studio to record the full-length debut For Salvation. In the midst of the recording process, Lost Disciple Records approached the band and ultimately purchased the remainder of its Blood Fire Death contract. Noctuary signed a two-album deal with Lost Disciple and released For Salvation in the fall of 1998. The album cemented Noctuary's underground reputation and displayed the constant evolution of its songwriting and technical mastery.

The band had never ceased performing and writing new material. By early 2000, an entire new album was written and prepared for recording. During the sessions for its second full-length effort, Noctuary began exploring more creative territories and seeking to fuse its popular and classical influences. The concept album When Fires Breed Blood was released in the fall of 2000 and hailed as a masterpiece. The band's newer songs incorporated postmodern keyboard interludes and acoustic guitar passages, melodic and raw vocal styles, and framed all of these with evocative songwriting. Noctuary had taken its brand of extreme metal into uncharted thematic and musical territory.

The band continues to expand and breach musical boundaries in the production of its forthcoming effort, The Grand Design. Much of the new album's framework was completed in early 2002, though Noctuary continues refining its songs and overall layout. A new label is currently being sought. More news on the production of The Grand Design will follow shortly.
