Norbert Kögging grew up in a musical family in the Netherlands. After playing the saxophone for several years, he took a chance and sang on stage for the first time. After these first steps as a vocalist, Norbert decided to develop his vocal skills. In 2009 Norbert Kögging started composing his own music. One month later, he performed one of his first compositions “A Silent Scream” during the finals of the Dutch Jazz Vocalists Competition. The response was incredibly enthusiastic, making this performance a huge milestone for his career as a composer.
In the summer of 2009 Kögging’s project recorded its first demo and from that moment the band was called NOA (Norbert Köggingvocals/compositions, Folkert Oosterbeekpiano, Tobias Nijboerbass and Felix Schlarmanndrums.) Their sound is filled with rhythmic energy, combined with warm and sometimes intimate vocals that invoke the feel of Kurt Elling. In 2010, Norbert spent two months at the Banff Centre for the Arts and is returning to Canada this winter to record an album with NOA at the Banff Centre. NOA’s performance at Hermann’s Jazz Club will follow the recording date within a few days.
