Mip Power Trio
The Mip Power Trio is a zany power-pop, rock, and folk experience that “feels like a fun house party on a summers night.” (Lipstick Indie) Whether you’re craving something quirky and upbeat, the twangs of a modern minstrel, or soul-wrenching rock…whelp, the Mip Power Trio has a tune for that. Mip, through writing, arranging, and performing music her way has created something that is “unconventionally exciting to the ears.” (Music She Blogged)It is by the powers of Mip (Guitar, vocals, songwriting), Greg Kowalczyk (Bass), and Shane MacPherson (Drums) combined that the Mip Power Trio is in full force. While the band originated in Toronto their leading vocalist and songwriter Mip proudly hails from rural British Columbia. The transition has led to rural-urban contrast being a huge focus in her songwriting, among themes of wanderlust and the adventures of young adulthood.
The Mip Power Trio’ self-produced debut album, Haggard and Bedraggled, was completed and released in March 2012. In order to capture the energy of the band the songs were tracked live of the floor and the band had fun adding a few embellishments in the aftermath. Haggard and Bedraggled was well received by a loyal audience from central Ontario to the Pacific Coast. The Mip Power Trio is now preparing for its sophomore album in the latter half of 2013.
Since their formation in 2010 the Mip Power Trio has played many prominent venues in the Toronto area, including the Lula Lounge, The Horseshoe Tavern, and The Rivoli. In summer 2011 the Mip Power Trio also completed a successful mini-tour of BC where they headlined the Smithers Midsummer Music Festival. They will be revisiting BC in summer 2013 to headline at the Kispiox Valley Music Festival (Kispiox Valley, BC) and the Edge of the World Festival (Haida Gwaii, BC).
