About

Kris Davis Quartet

Kris Davis Quartet
Vancouver-born pianist/composer Kris Davis is rapidly becoming a vital contributor to the New York jazz scene. Exploring the balance between free improvisation and composition, her writing and pianistic prowess have been described as adventurous and refreshing. From the outset of her impressive second recording The Slightest Shift, you get a sense of kaleidoscopic possibilities in both the playing and the compositions. There’s colour and angularity and continual movement in her approach, which entrusts her quartet—the talented and in-demand tenor saxophonist Tony Malaby, bassist Eivind Opsvik, and drummer Jeff Davis—to work independently toward a common goal. Thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts.
