We believe girls have the power to make positive change.
We believe girls have a right to the tools to help them succeed.
We believe girls have the right to be loud and take up space.
We believe girls rock!
Girls Rock Camp Victoria (GRCVI) is a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit society based in Victoria, BC Canada.
GRCVI provides girls, gender non-binary and trans youth with the opportunity for self-expression and fosters confidence building through musical education and skill development. GRCVI strives towards building a supportive community of women, girls, trans and gender non-binary persons by providing opportunities to learn, explore and empower themselves and each other through musical expression and education.
Like all Girls Rock Camps (GRC) around the world, GRCVI is independently operated. To support the development of our camp, GRCVI is connected with other GRCs and the Girls Rock Camp Alliance for their knowledge and resources. GRCVI joined the GRCA as a full member in 2015.
The first GRC was held in 2001 in Portland, Oregon. The camp stemmed from a Women's Studies project that founder Misty McElroy completed as part of her studies at Portland State University. Since then, camps have been started in over forty cities across countries including Canada, Sweden, and Brazil.
Girls Rock Camp programming allows participants to engage in an immersive experience with local musicians and volunteers. The camps use rock and roll as a background over which campers learn skills including relationship building, communication and leadership.
We're here to help artists and arts organizations reach their audiences and each other.
Non-profit run and created by the community, ArtsVictoria.ca integrates current event listings and multimedia arts portfolios, and creates an explorable, living archive of the arts in Victoria BC.
