Formed by singer Andrew Babuin in 1998, Flannel Jimmy has grown from his small basement vision into one of Vancouver's strongest live draws. The initial incarnation of the band started in Andrew's hometown of Nanaimo, BC with himself and saxophone player Alex Maher. Upon their enrolling at Vancouver's University of British Columbia,
Alex enlisted drummer Ryan Stewart and Andrew simply had to look up one floor for a bass player. Thunder Bay native Alex Escott lived in the dorm room immediately above Andrew. Needless to say, he liked what he'd heard coming from below. After playing a number of shows everyone agreed that another guitar player would round things out nicely and and Mario Vaira signed up. With all of the members of the band coming from a wide variety of backgrounds Flannel Jimmy's music became a hybrid of rock, funk
and jazz.
