FIT Installations

Fit Installations in collaboration with Freie Internationale Tankstelle & The Goethe-Institut Germany, is a series of Exhibitions, performances, workshops and lectures, featuring both local and international artists. The exhibits aim to investigate and express ideas in sustainability and the environment, economics and landscape performativity and spatial humanities, through a demonstration of site specific works and social gatherings.

The Goethe-Institut is embarking on a 2-year initiative to create the Goethe Satellite, a programming framework where artists and curators are invited to develop projects in Vancouver. For almost 50 years, the Goethe-Institut has been promoting dialogue and exchange between Canadian and German artists. The Satellite emerges from the Goethe-Institut’s interest in exploring experimental concepts within contemporary art, in multiple locations with flexible structures. The Institute believes that Vancouver’s unique location and artistic milieu provides the ideal setting for the Satellite concept.

Since it was founded in 2002, the FIT - freie internationale tankstelle - has stood for art that is relevant to society. Art that uses aesthetics to communicate ideas of individual and societal concerns. Art that is visionary in its conception. The mission of FIT is to reclaim the abandoned architecture of filling stations and to rebrand their original function as sources of fossil fuel. It is a vision of transformation. Where the stations of exhausted natural resources, are transformed by the imagination of those who gather, in the spirit of collaboration, to produce a new fuel for humanity. To tap into an inexhaustable resource; the life force of human creativity.

It is the mission of FIT to be all inclusive in its commitment to exploring the full spectrum of human and societal creativity, including those expressions not commonly valued by society. the first project presented by the Goethe Satellite Vancouver, a two-year initiative of the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with Revised Projects.

FIT Projects realized and initiated By Dida Zende (Berlin).

FIT Installations Vancouver organized and curated by Natasha Lands, Victor Wang, Malcolm Levy, Sarah Cole-Burnett.
