Robin Horn exemplifies the complete musician, with skills as a live and studio drummer, composer, arranger, producer, recording artist, electronic percussion programmer, demonstrator, clinician, and educator.
He was born into a musically gifted family and environment (father Paul and Paul's mother, Francis Sper - pianist for Inving Berlin, and Godfather, Chico Hamilton). Robin began playing the drums at the age of eight. He grew up in famed Laurel Canyon in the 1960's knowing such people such as Carole King, Mickey Dolenz, The Turtles, Donovan, John Densmore (drummer for the Doors, with whom Robin had a drum lesson), Mick Fleetwood, Buddy Rich and countless others.
After attending high school in Victoria, Robin studied music at De Anza College (1978-1980) and The University of Toronto(1980-1982). While attending DeAnza College, Robin had to opportunity to back jazz legend, Chick Corea during his clinic (1978). In addition, he has studied with a who's who list of teachers including Peter Erskine, Graham Lear (Gino Vannelli and Santana), Milt Holland and Emil Richards (LA studio percussion legends), Chuck Flores, Jake Hanna, Jim Blackley, Russel Hartenberger (Nexus), Memo Acevedo (Brazilian Percussion), Taranath Rao (tablas), and Ted Moses (Jazz Composition).
In his 25 years of professional experience in the music business, Robin has amassed an impressive, diverse and prolific career portfolio.
As a live acoustic drummer, his craft has taken him around the world. In 1982, Robin began touring with his father, renowned jazz flutist Paul Horn. To date, they have toured the world extensively, including Brazil, China, North America, Europe, Russia and Spain. In 2006, Robin performed with the Larry Redhouse Trio in Grenoble, France at the Grenoble Jazz Festival. Over the years, he has performed/recorded with Airto, Brian Bromberg, Michael Bruce (original guitarist with Alice Cooper), John Clayton, Frank Gambale (Guitarist with Chick Corea), Andy Griffith, Patrick Moraz (Keyboardist for Yes & Moody Blues) Rob Mullins, Tommy Newsome (of the famed Tonight Show), Diane Schuur, Ben Vereen, and countless others.
