Called “the most important new musician in 20 years” by Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman has become a true master of the tenor saxophone, most iconic of jazz instruments. This personable son of jazz legend Dewey Redman became an overnight sensation; but unlike so many other of the “young lions” that the jazz media has shone a spotlight on over the years, Redman had staying power and more than enough talent to carve out an impressive, increasingly mature career. Between his extensive discography and legendary live performances, Redman continues to astonish with his ability to balance formal complexity with emotional directness.James Farm (with CD of the same name) is a new collaboration project featuring Joshua Redman saxophone, Aaron Parks piano, Matt Penman bass and Erik Harland drums. James Farm infuses traditional acoustic jazz quartet instrumentation with a progressive attitude and modern sound, creating music that is rhythmically and technically complex and at the same time harmonically rich, melodically satisfying and emotionally compelling. James Farm debuted at the 2009 Montreal Jazz Festival to a packed house and rave reviews.
“It’s been a long time since jazz produced a saxophonist with Redman’s fearless improvisational skill and mature melodic sense.” –Time Magazine
