Aussies in the Rockies with Steph Strings, Kim Churchill, Lloyd Spiegel and Carly Mackerras

Last summer at the 2025 Canmore Folk Festival in Canmore, AB we were lucky enough to have 3 generations of Australian guitar legends on the lineup with Steph Strings, Kim Churchill and Lloyd Spiegel! They each had their own solo show, and also shared the stage for the "Down & Under" workshop on Sunday morning - what a way to kick off a festival day!

We also have a lot of Aussie workers living in the Canadian Rockies, many of whom get involved in the local music scene such as solo artist Carly Mackerras. In this feature we explore the connection between our 2 countries a world apart. Why we are similar though different, our mutual connection to nature, how similar types of music connects with our people, how the Aussies developed their unreal guitar style, the evolutionary chain of the instrument, and so much more!

Thank you to Canmore Folk Festival for having Rocky Mountain Live come cover this event, and thank you to the amazing artists who appear in this feature for joining us while in town!
