Event Description
Venetian plaster artists Michelle Winkel and Kate Carson are back with a new body of work next week, as well as a hands-on workshop in response to repeated requests to learn how to work with this ancient medium.
“Last summer’s show at the Community Arts Council Gallery in the Cedar Hill Rec Centre was such a hit that we’ve moved to their main venue at 656 Fort Street,” explains Winkel. “This bigger space will allow us to offer daily demos and weekend workshops.”
Their new exhibit – Polished! 2.0 – opens this Friday June 2nd at 5pm and runs until June 22nd. It will be a wonderful showcase of the versatility of venetian plaster: made with marble dust and lime, venetian plaster dries rock hard and can be burnished to a marble-like sheen.
“It was the medium of choice in the days of Michaelangelo, but more recently has been relegated to the faux finishing section of the hardware store,” explains Carson. “We’re hoping to help spark a real revival!”
