Four National Fingerstyle Guitar Champions will grace the stage at the Woodstock Opera House for Ed Hall’s 19th annual Woodstock Christmas Guitar Night. Performing will be Don Alder from Vancouver, Canada whose style of playing incorporates fingerpicking with simultaneous percussion on the soundboard to create a wall of sound. Don's music is his own unique weave of deeply textured melody and story. Richard Smith from Nashville, TN, has a repertoire comprised of a wide variety of music from classical Bach to Beatles pop. It ranges from jazz standards, to Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed, and to Django Reinhardt gypsy swing. Phil Heywood from Minneapolis, MN plays guitar with a bluesy swing and a bucketful of whatever it takes to turn an instrumental piece into an arresting lyrical narrative. His lucid playing encompasses the down-home rhythmic groove of Mississippi John Hurt and Leadbelly. As always, Ed Hall from Harvard, IL will serve as your host and perform his own array of unusual arrangements as well.
