Victoria's multifaceted Starlight Pops, directed by Sue Doman, presents “C’mon, Get Happy!”, a celebration of classic feel-good tunes from some of popular music’s most beloved and enduring artists including ABBA, Katrina & The Waves, Simon & Garfunkel, Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, The Beatles, Dirty Dancing, American Authors, and many others.
Special guests for this concert are The Harmony Group, a mixed-voice quartet from Victoria, and the concert includes special presentations and solos including a solo by Doman herself.
“Nowadays folks have lots of reasons to feel down and depressed,” says Doman, “but this concert gives us a chance to lift people’s spirits and put a smile on their faces. The happiness in this music is infectious, and we’re expecting lots of smiles and toe-tapping, maybe even some dancing in the aisles; who knows?”
Founded in 2008 by Doman, a well-known Victoria conductor and vocalist, Starlight Pops is a 75-voice choir backed by a professional four-piece instrumental combo. Starlight Pops performs a wide variety of songs -- hit parade numbers, 50's doo-wop, show tunes, contemporary favourites, vocal jazz and well-known light classical music. The overriding consideration in the selection of songs is that they be tunes that people know and love.
“If people want to forget their troubles and just get happy for a while,” says Doman, “this is the place to be. We’re going to have a ton of fun!”
