Kenji Fuse received his B. of Mus. in performance from the University of Toronto, where he studied with Steven Dann and Lorand Fenyves, and has taught viola at the University of Victoria's School of Music. In 1996/97, Kenji was awarded a grant from the Canada Council to study Canadian compositions for viola with the legendary viola virtuoso Rivka Golani in London, England. Kenji is principal viola in the Victoria Symphony and is also known as a soloist, composer and guitarist in the rock band 'Veronica Tangent'. He is also an unrepentent tree huger and enviromentalist. Kenji drives a 1988 Ford F250 diesel truck, which he fuels with used vegetable oil he collects from restaurants for free. Kenji performed his own Viola Concerto with the Victoria Symphony in their 2004/2005 season, with the incredible Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducting. He also gave the BC premiere of Jacques Hetu's Viola Concerto in 2010, performed Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante (with Tori Gould, violin soloist) and performed Berlioz' Harold In Italy in 2018, with the Victoria Symphony, and their dynamic new Music Director, Christian Kluxen.
