Being raised on the coast of Vancouver Island, Claire was immersed in the natural culture of the ocean early in life. She had many opportunities to travel and explore by sea much of the coastline of North America mostly by sailboat or salmon packer in which she developed a deep connection and admiration for this coast. The rugged shores, ocean swells, hardy forest fringes, mountain vistas, starry nights, dynamic daily changes in light and weather, secluded beaches… a rugged, yet fragile landscape makes up the environment she calls home.
Claire primarily works as a freelance illustrator & designer between Tofino and Victoria, British Columbia. She works in a wide variety of mediums including pen & ink, watercolour, acrylic and digital, and is mainly known for her fine line work, organic colour palette, and west coast illustrative style which is present throughout them all. Her client list includes many local businesses as well as such companies as Patagonia, HSBC, BC Ferries, Nature’s Path Organic Foods, Canadian Surfing Association, Relais & Chateau’s The Wickaninnish Inn, amongst others. Her largest accomplishment thus far is a limited edition commemorative coin designed for the Royal Canadian Mint in 2019.
