Well here I am on this, the eve of a day loved by some martyred by others. About to take in a band I’ve heard, but never seen, the band called Vapid. Coming together from different parts of BC and mixing their talents together to form this band. The singer Katie with her raspy girl snotty sound really fires up the demon in all of us to let loose and smash some shit up. Steve with his smooth sailing guitar playing, Carolyn pumping out wicked bass lines and Ben keeping everything going awesome on drums made for a well rounded experience. After the show I realized what type of interview I was going to get, sexy, dirty and real.

Who pressed your new album “Practically Dead”?

Ben: Nominal and Deranged, they each did a pressing of it of 500 plus.

Carolyn: They split even Steven on it

Was there any particular reason you did that?

Ben: Well Shawn (from nominal) was going to put it out, Gordon (deranged) approached him and said he wanted to release it too. It really had nothing to do with us.

Katie: Gordon initiated it and asked us and we said yes with Shawn’s approval.

Server from the Eldorado: That was a really good show it was really awesome.

Carloyn: thank you so much

Server from the Eldorado: I especially like the song about ummm….

Carolyn: Pussy?

Sever from the Eldorado: Ya Ya !!! that was my favorite.

Steve: There aren’t enough songs about pussy in the world.

Sloan bones: There aren’t.

You guys are touring in April with The Defecktors is that a U.S tour or Canadian tour?

Ben: We are going to go to California and back.

How long have you guys been a band for?

Carolyn: About 4 years

Are you guys in on the whole Anti Valentines day thing?

Katie: You what I think Valentines Day is pretty stupid personally.

Ben: I think Valentines Day is fucken bullshit, if people need to that to feel romantic, to me that means nothing it’s completely be noun.

Steve: It’s a day dedicated to love.

Ben: I respect a different opinion, but for myself I don’t celebrate Valentines Day and neither does my girl friend.

Katie: As long as you don’t propose marriage on Valentines Day.
Carolyn: Why not? That would be so romantic!

Katie: Oh come on talk about cliché!

Ben: This is a corporate holiday were talking about it has nothing to do with anything.

Steve: It day dedicated to love.

Ben: You know what, love is spontaneous, and love is just something that happens accidentally. If it’s something truly romantic than it’s not expected, otherwise it s just as much bull shit as rom coms.

Katie: I love rom coms.

Ben: Fuck that shit.

Katie: Christian and I celebrate Rom coms but don’t celebrate Valentines Day.

Steve: I love Valentines Day and Romantic Comedies.

Ben: So there’s a difference of opinion.

Sloan Bones: I see that, that’s good.

You guys write interesting titles for your songs and dark lyrics what inspires you to write?

Ben: We write about things that we hate and we do and love I guess too.

Katie: We draw from our life experience.

Carolyn: No we don’t draw from out life experience.

Katie: What are you talking about?

Carloyn: Basically we write about people we know.

Katie: We write about ourselves people we know and people that we wish we knew.

How about the whole Olympic thing?

Steve: It really has no bearing on our band.

Ben: I was in a protest yesterday.

Katie: I worked at restaurant that was full of people celebrating and had to listen to a group of people singing the national anthem, it happened once and that was enough it was awful.

Ben: I think that the people who wanted the Olympics the majority got and good for them. Enjoy it.

What’s your favorite place to go when you’re on tour?

Steve: Montréal soo fun.

Ben: we vet only been on one tour.

Steve: And Montréal was the funnest show so that makes it the best place to go.

Katie: I think Chicago was pretty fun.

Steve: Ya Chicago was good.

Katie: Ya no Montréal was a cool city.

Ben: I like San Francisco but our band hasn’t been to San Francisco. But soon

Carloyn: We’ll be going there in April.

What food best describes your band?

Carolyn: What food?

Ben: I hate food metaphors.

Steve: Cheese burgers but Katie doesn’t eat cheese burgers

Katie: Ill eat a veggie burger.

Ben: I just think food is a gross image. I love eating food I fucken love it but when I think about it it’s kinda gross.
Carolyn: Stir fry

Katie: I know what food best describes our band beer.

What about your name Vapid because you guys on stage are anything but the definition of the word?

Ben: The name to me represents our society or the time in which we live.

With that the light s came on in the Eldorado and my interview came to a close. As the members of Vapid have shown me what makes a great band is a difference of opinion and a unique outlook on the world.

I am
