Cents 7"
review by Jeff Knowlton / Dandelion
I was talking the other day to Drew from the Dead Ghosts about Ty Segall and
he said ‘why didn't they use "the Drag" as the single?’ referring to a great song from Ty
Segall's last album. I couldn't agree with him more. Ty Segall is possibly the worst person ever at choosing his own singles. He has some amazing songs to choose from off his upcoming lp, but all three songs on this single are only really good… not great…which for me is frustrating because I know he is very capable of creating garage mayhem of the first order.
"Cents" is still a nice little song full of his trademark garage moves
with that buzzing wildness just under the surface and catchy riffs blasting every
which way. Simple, solid, energetic and funnnnnnnnnnnn.
"No No" is another solid song - but I think I would rather listen to almost
any song off the first lp instead, to be honest. However, as it will not appear on the upcoming
"Lemons" lp, it may be of interest to diehard fans.
"Standing at the Station" is no standard fair; a pretty awesome and intense little punk
number. All in all, this single is worth snapping up IF YOU ARE A SINGLES NUT.
If you are LP friendly, wait a week or two and pick up "Lemons."
Ty Segall is certainly an artist worth keeping an eye on, and can now be enjoyed adding his talents to the already
wonderful Sic Alps . I for one can't wait for more.
