Jones Bones have never been a band to give up and pack it in, no matter how many speed bumps get in the way. From members quitting two weeks before a tour, to members quitting two hours before a show (both filled in with last minute additions) all the way to members being hospitalized, Jones Bones hasn’t had an easy go of things. But nobody ever said being in a band would be easy. This local foursome have been chugging along on the scene for quite some time now, and they’re apparently going to be around for a while longer, thanks to the addition of a new drummer. The Skinny caught up with the band’s mouthpiece, and this is what he had to say:

Skinny: It’s been a while since you last played, what have you guys been up to?

Denis: We added a new drummer to the mix, so we’ve been getting him up to speed, and putting a bunch of finishing touches on our newest material. All that plus making fun of each other 24/7, and you’ve got yourself a full-time hobby.

Skinny: Who’s the new drummer?

Denis: Carl Baird. He’s a veteran to the Vancouver scene, having played with a slew of bands. He makes a great addition with his experience and sense of humour.

Skinny: So back to The Cobalt again, huh?

Denis: The Cobalt remains the coolest place in the city. Even though we’ve done some pretty haggard things on that stage, they still let us come back.

Skinny: Haggard things?

Denis: When we first started playing live, we were drunken lunatics that would smash up our gear, and ourselves. But I will say at least we had enough respect to bring a bucket to my birthday show. The last time we played The Cobalt we had a full size dummy that went crowd surfing and our bassist played in a pig towel and disgusting tighty whiteys. It was amazing I didn’t puke at that show as well. But I think we’ve matured since then, musically and as people. However it’s been six long months since we’ve last graced the stage, so I’m sure we’ll be channeling some of the old Jones Bones ways and putting on a wild show once again. You won’t find a more entertaining show for a five dollar cover.

Skinny: Who else is playing?

Denis: We’ve got Scabs, a sick local metal band bordering on hardcore grind with energy for miles. Wantmonster are a wild pack of beasts from Nelson that touch on so many genres I can’t even begin to list them, and guitar solos! Then North or Die does the skate punk thing and even throws a little ska into the mix. It’s going to be a metal vs punk night. Deep down inside I know the punks and the skids want to unite.

Skinny: Anything else you want to add?

Denis: Come to the show, have a good time, drink lots of beer and support local music. Without the crowd, we’d be nothing.
