Event Description

About the Workshop:

Participants are invited for a presentation and discussion with Métis visual artist, Jesse Campbell, around how to bring Indigenous artists into your classroom and honour these artists through working within Indigenous protocols. Jesse will also touch on how to honour Indigenous artists in your classroom if you are not directly working with them. Participants will also hear about the Legacy Art Galleries' free school tours, online curriculum and resources from past exhibitions, and have a hands-online art activity from our curriculum.

Participants:

The workshop is made for educators from both primary and secondary schools in mind.

What to Bring:

Legacy will be providing some light snacks and drinks. We encourage you to bring your own instruments (laptops, pen, notebooks, etc.) for taking notes.

Accessibility:

The main entrance to Legacy is at street level and there are no steps or gaps to enter the main gallery, inner gallery or washrooms. The main entrance has two sets of heavy doors with push buttons. There are additional doors without push buttons to the inner gallery. There is ample space to maneuver a mobility device without any sharp turns.

Washrooms:

Legacy has two single-stall, gender inclusive washrooms. Both of these washrooms have manual doors and only one provides ample space for mobility devices. The bathrooms are equipped with support bars but the depth of the sink and door handle style may be challenging for some patrons. The larger bathroom is equipped with a baby changing station.

Parking:

Paid street parking is available seven days a week on the streets surrounding the gallery, including Yates Street and Broad Street. The closest parkade are the Yates Street Parkade (575 Yates Street) as well as the View Street Parkade (743 View Street).
