There are important connections between people, animals and plants that can be shared by Indigenous peoples who are caretakers of the land. We need to live in harmony with Mother Earth and allow these natural medicines to once again help us.
Inspired by cultural ancestral knowledge of Mitchif plant medicines, this international collaboration between Vancouver’s V’ni Dansi and Sante Fe’s Dancing Earth celebrates people’s connection to earth and highlights the importance of plant medicine in Indigenous cultures.
Based on an idea from 2014, choreographer Yvonne Chartrand from V’ni Dansi reached out to her fellow choreographer Rulan Tangen from Dancing Earth. Inspired to explore cultural ancestral knowledge of Mitchif plant medicines, these two choreographers shared ideas and dances across international borders to develop La Mitchin di Mitchif which has its Vancouver premiere in June 2022 to celebrate National Indigenous Day.
