School of Social Work Presents Francis Dick, Kwakwaka’ wakw Artist Art Gallery & "Spirits of the Forest" Mask Dance

Presented by Clan Chief Adam Dick (Kwaxsistalla), Qawadiliqalla Clan of the Tsawataineuk of Kingcome Inlet, Kwakwaka’wakw Nation. Kwaxsistalla owns the cultural and intellectual property rights to this dance. Kwaxsistalla inherited the Atla’gimma from his father’s side through Chief Pasa’lathl of Wuikinuxv (Rivers Inlet). This Dance tells the story of how all the lifeforms and elements of the forest – including humans – are interdependent. The lesson is presented as a dream, instructing a boy who had hunted too many grouse, about the impacts his actions have had on the forest community.

Proceeds from this event will support Indigenous students at UVIC

Ticket price also includes entrance to Art Gallery & Reception at First People's House Ceremonial Hall, 6pm
