Barbara Jane ( MacLeod) Dow is a fifth generation British Columbian. Jane’s ancestors sailed on the historic Mayflower and migrated to Canada then British Columbia long before it was established. Her family lived in West Vancouver and she has a deep love for her province and country, painting primarily in Whistler, the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island.
She was fortunate to be exposed to constant creativity and ingenuity from her mother, and is inspired by her west coast surroundings. Jane’s artistic Mother included her when she painted with oils and Jane created paintings from a very early age.
Jane and her husband lived in Whistler, BC for 20+ years where she became fully immersed in the painting scene. Over the last few years she has committed herself to improving her skills as an artist by attending classes and workshops with generous and talented Canadian Artists such as Chilli Thom, Brent Lynch, Mike Svob, Brian Simons and many others. Her new studio hosts guest instructors and provides learning opportunities for other artists. As a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, she took every opportunity to attend classes and workshops with famous Canadian Artists. There she has continued to evolve her layering technique, typically with a palette knife on prepared board and has also created vibrant impasto pieces of personal work. Including her latest endeavour in organic ceramics all created in her new art/pottery studio.
