Contemporary Art I
This two-part course follows the trajectory of contemporary art from mid-20th century to the present. The course begins with an overview of contemporary art and selected artists and then moves to the aftermath of Modernism, and late-twentieth century trends in painting, photography, sculpture and installation. Social, political and other artistic genres (such as literature, music and film) are taken into consideration when discussing the art. Course includes lectures, discussion as well as hands-on art projects. To obtain a good grasp of the subject matter, it is important to have the textbook. Suitable for beginners. Required Textbook: Tony Godfrey, The Story of Contemporary Art, The MIT Press(Nov 10 2020). This text is used for Contemporary Art I and II.
