AUDITION NOTICE:
Blue Elephant Theatre will be holding auditions in Victoria for its upcoming production of Fool’s Paradise. The play will premiere this summer at the Victoria Fringe Festival (August 22 to September 2).
Fool’s Paradise a new Canadian play by emerging playwright Anna MacAlpine, set in 17th century France. Mathilde is a young nun whose life radically changes when she meets Julie d’Aubigny, a notorious Parisian opera singer and swordsmaster. Together they plan a daring escape from the convent and elope across France, but it isn’t long before Julie’s colourful past catches up with them.
ROLES:
Mathilde: Female, late teens/early twenties. Outwardly shy and timid, but with an inner strength.
Julie d’Aubigny: Female, late teens/early twenties. Loud, rambunctious, ambitious. Knows exactly who she is and what she is capable of.
Chorus 1: Female, 20s-40s. Plays two contrasting roles: Camille (Mathilde’s best friend and confidant) and Sister Margaret (a nun).
Chorus 2: Female, 20s-40s. Plays two contrasting roles: Sérannes (a fencing master and Julie’s former lover) and Sister Isobel (a nun).
HOW TO APPLY:
Actors are invited to submit a headshot and resume to Anna MacAlpine at
[email protected]. Please prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues of your choice (not to exceed 2 minutes in length each). If you sing or play an instrument, please include that information on your resume.
Auditions will be held on May 29 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with callbacks on May 30 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Video submissions will be accepted if an interested applicant is unavailable on the time/dates in question and will be considered on a case by case basis. Successful applicants will be contacted to schedule an audition time.
If you are interested in a technical or stage management position, please indicate that clearly in your email/cover letter.
