CALL OUT TO ARTISTS!!!
The fifty fifty arts collective is working with Burnside Gorge Community Center to develop an arts program for the youth drop-in for males and females, ages 9 to 17.
Youth programs and services build the assets of local youth that allow them to succeed and become contributing citizens. Burnside Gorge strives to build these assets in our youth by providing support, empowerment and constructive use of time. The aim of the arts program is to provide a non judgmental, non graded atmosphere where youth can learn and experiment with artistic media, build a portfolio, understand what it means to be an artist and have a good time. We want to exhibit the artwork made by the youth in the center, both as a way of sharing ideas and of taking ownership of the youth drop-in space. We also hope to have a public exhibition at the fifty fifty arts collective.
As such we are looking for artists willing to contribute to the program by sharing their skills and experiences. Sessions will begin in mid to late January and will be for 2 to 3 hours on Wednesday evenings, held at the Burnside Gorge Community Center. Artists are not expected to contribute more that one session (though all the help we can get is most welcome).
Photography, sculpture, graffiti/street art, painting, drawing, jewellery making, film and video, and collage are a some of the suggestions we have received that the kids at Burnside would like to learn about and all other suggestions are welcome.
If you are interested please email us at
