Event Description

After winning the Thelonius Monk award in 1993, Franco-American pianist JACKY TERRASSON came up through the venerable jazz school of Betty Carter, accompanying the iconic singer for many years. There’s no lack of variety in Terrasson’s approach to material, as he incorporates funk, soul, and allusions to contemporary pop songs; marshaling a playful virtuosity, he plays Sonny Rollins, John Lennon, Amy Winehouse, and even Justin Bieber amongst his own original compositions. This exuberant, intuitive, and dazzlingly gifted musician has been compared to both Bud Powell and Ahmad Jamal and is considered one of the finest pianists on the scene today. His latest recording Take This was released in 2015 on Impulse! Records. Jamire Williams drums and Burniss Travis III bass
