Vancouver, BC – April 4, 2016 – The staff of Opus Art Supplies invites artists of all ages, mediums and skill levels to spend a creative day outdoors at the 2016 Opus Outdoor Painting Challenge on Sunday, May 15, 2016.

What is Opus OPC?

The Opus Outdoor Painting Challenge (Opus OPC) is Canada’s largest one-day outdoor painting challenge. Opus Art Supplies, with 6 stores throughout BC, invites artists from across BC to celebrate the beginning of the outdoor painting season by participating in this creative community event. What is the purpose of this event?

The goal of this event is to share the joy of creating art outdoors with fellow artists, family members, and friends. Opus OPC is a catalyst for creativity, and gets artists primed to move from the studio to the great outdoors.

Who is the event for?

This free event is open to all ages and levels of experience, from the novice artist to creative professionals. Families, groups of friends, and individuals are all invited to participate.

It is also a wonderful way for those who have recently discovered adult colouring to take the next step along the path to inspiration. For people who have a creative spark and haven’t lit the match yet, now is the time to give it a try!

Our motto for Opus OPC is Let’s get the whole province painting! Over the past 4 years, this event has grown to nearly 1,000 participants. With your help spreading the word to a public seeking more hands-on creativity in their life, our 5th anniversary event promises to be bigger than ever!

How does it work?

The challenge is simple: Opus provides each participant with a free 8" × 10" canvas panel to take to a nearby “Painting Zone” where they can create an outdoor-inspired piece using any medium they bring with them.

Once completed, each piece will be displayed for same-day judging. Judges’ selections are made based on which pieces they feel best express the spirit of the day, so we encourage everyone to have fun and enjoy this day of creating outdoors.

Prizes
There are $27,000 in prizes at this year’s Opus OPC. Our judges’ top picks at each of our six Opus locations will be awarded up to $300 in Opus Gift Cards (for a total of $6,000 event-wide), and all participants are eligible to win draw prizes from our product sponsors. This year, our sponsors have contributed a generous $21,000+ in art supplies draw prizes to help encourage everyone to continue creating art outdoors throughout the summer and well beyond the challenge day.

Artists and the public are encouraged to share the excitement of the challenge by posting pictures or videos of their day to social media with #OPUSOPC and @opusartsupplies.
