Public Art Proposal Call for Artists - Craigflower Bridge project.
The District of Saanich is please to announce a Call to Artists for proposals for a work of public art in association with the re-constructed Craigflower Bridge.
The goals of Saanich’s public art program are to increase the appeal and attractiveness of the Municipality, increase public awareness and appreciation of the arts, and to stimulate creativity in the community.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
THEME: "Bridging Perspectives"
SITE: The proposed public art work is to be located on a pre-determined site that is connected to the new Craigflower Bridge and is adjacent to Kosapsom Park. The terms of reference for the competition provides a map showing the location.
ELIGIBILITY: Artists must reside on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, or in the Greater Vancouver area.
BUDGET: The total budget available for the art work is $25,000, inclusive of all expenses (including any tax).
JURY PROCESS: This will be a two stage juried competition conducted under the policy and guidelines of the Comprehensive Arts Policy for the District of Saanich. The jury will assess submissions on their consistency with the competition parameters, quality, practicability of the submission, appropriateness to the chosen site, artistic merit, durability, maintenance needs and public safety, and on the basis of the quality of previous work. The artist’s relevant experience and ability of the applicant to complete such a project will also be considered.
INFORMATION OPEN HOUSE: An Open House to provide further information will be held on Thursday, February 5 at the Pearkes Recreation Centre (3100 Tillicum Road – behind Tillicum Shopping Centre). Artists may drop by anytime between 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm, to ask questions regarding the competition, the public art jury process, and preparation of a proposal submission.

http://www.saanich.ca, and from the Saanich Planning Department at the Municipal Hall (770 Vernon Ave). Copies of these documents will also be available at the artist information open house.
DEADLINE: The submission deadline for Stage 1 of the competition is 4:30 pm, Monday, March 2nd.
